Black Voices at Amazon
CUSTOMER STORY
Established in 2005, the Black Employee Network (BEN) is Amazon’s largest employee-led affinity group, championing global inclusion for over 2,000 members. For the "Culture is Calling" initiative, Mainestream Creative was tapped to elevate the narratives of Black leaders—ranging from operations managers to global Vice Presidents—showcasing their contributions to innovation, leadership, and community.

THE ASK
Develop a high-fidelity visual identity and narrative framework for Amazon Black History Month campaign. The goal: create a premium digital stage that spotlights Black excellence across global leadership, fusing editorial art direction with authentic storytelling.

"In the fulfillment centers, everything starts with the employees. We learn together, we work together, we win together, we truly are in this together."
Marlon Ratliff, Operations Manager
The Portraits: The Documentary Lens
To move beyond corporate artifice, we utilized a documentary-styled approach that prioritizes raw authenticity over artificial polish. By employing a subtractive lighting strategy and a shallow depth of field, we effectively "silenced" the background to center the narrative on the subject's presence. In this framework, "The Call" is both an invitation and a frequency; we engineered the visual signal to ensure that when culture speaks, the presence is felt, the resolution is sharp, and the excellence is undeniable.

The Interviews: Capturing the Frequency
To bring the "Culture is Calling" theme to life, we focused on the natural rhythm of the conversation, treating each interview as a high-fidelity signal. By maintaining a consistent, quiet visual backdrop, we allowed the weight of the words to take center stage.
"The Call" in these spotlights is more than just an interview—it is a frequency of leadership and excellence. Through intentional, close-cropped framing, we captured the tenacity behind the testimony, ensuring that as each CultureMaker shares their truth, the signal remains sharp, the message remains clear, and the impact resonates across Amazon’s global infrastructure.
